Today, I sat in a small office at work admiring the beautiful snowfall from this window. The children around me screamed in amazement wishing the snow would never stop. I too prayed it would last a little longer. Partly because I shared their excitement- partly because I didn’t want to venture out in the aftermath of slippery sleet on my walk home.
Unsurprisingly, that is exactly what I had to do. As I trudged through the icy roads and my boots filled with freezing water, I was reminded that nothing in this world lasts forever.
We begin life as young, impressionable and lively human beings. Yet, before long, our memory and our health are stripped away from us. The hardships and uncertainties in our lives do not always follow behind us. Many of our past troubles are now nothing but valuable lessons.
And the things we are blessed with today, we will not have tomorrow.
Everything has an end.
Just as that wonderful cotton-like snow disappears into a gloomy realm of grey puddles.
There are some things, however, that do not simply fade away.
The prayers you performed in the middle of the night with tears running down your face. The charity you willingly gave. The sacrifices you made for the sake of your Creator.
The people you cared for, the knowledge that you shared and the betrayer you forgave.
They remain attached to your soul. Written in your book. These things will be witnesses for you on the day of Judgement.
